“Rain Shadow” continues Jared Rue’s exploration of the Puget Sound region. Taking inspiration from the special area to the northeast of the Olympic Mountains on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, Rue has turned up the dial on color. While his work still maintains a contemplative nature, the color infusion—utilizing spray paint, metal leaf and oils on canvas—makes his work more fantastical. Familiar landscapes become almost storybook, making them seem as if they’ve been painted through the lens of a dream.
