In celebration of our 65th Anniversary, Woodside/Braseth Gallery is pleased to present “Masters of the Modern Northwest”, a landmark exhibition of important artworks by Mark Tobey, Morris Graves, Kenneth Callahan, and Guy Anderson, together with significant artworks by George Tsutakawa, Paul Horiuchi, Margaret Tompkins, Kathleen G. Adkison, James Fitzgerald, Louis Bunce, William Cumming, James Washington Jr., and other defining figures of Pacific Northwest Modernism.

Deeply influenced by the distinctive atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest, these artists drew inspiration from the natural beauty of the Puget Sound region while integrating elements of traditional Asian aesthetics. The result was a unique and innovative regional interpretation of Modernism that both expanded and challenged the “mystic” label often associated with their work.

Featuring more than forty exceptional artworks assembled through over two years of research, connoisseurship, and curatorial preparation, the exhibition reflects the Gallery’s longstanding relationships with many of these artists, their estates, and their collectors.

Presented in dialogue with Beyond Mysticism: The Modern Northwest at the Seattle Art Museum (March 5 – August 2, 2026), this exhibition offers a singular perspective on the development and enduring legacy of Pacific Northwest art.

We invite you to visit Woodside/Braseth Gallery to experience a thoughtfully curated and important selection of artworks by Guy Anderson, Kenneth Callahan, William Cumming, Louis Bunce, James Fitzgerald, Morris Graves, Paul Horiuchi, Mark Tobey, and George Tsutakawa.
