Woodside/Braseth Gallery is pleased to present an engaging and significant exhibition that complements Beyond Mysticism: The Modern Northwest, currently on view at the Seattle Art Museum.  Early participants and defining figures of this movement, Guy Anderson, Kenneth Callahan, Morris Graves, and Mark Tobey, came to be known as the “Northwest Mystics.”

Deeply influenced by the distinctive atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest, these artists drew inspiration from the natural beauty of the Puget Sound region while integrating elements of traditional Asian aesthetics. The result was a unique and innovative regional interpretation of Modernism that both expanded and challenged the “mystic” label often associated with their work.

We invite you to visit Woodside/Braseth Gallery to experience a thoughtfully curated and important selection of works by Guy Anderson, Kenneth Callahan, William Cumming, Louis Bunce, James Fitzgerald, Morris Graves, Paul Horiuchi, Mark Tobey, and George Tsutakawa.
