“Although I consider myself a figurative and narrative painter, for the last several years I have made the city my model and the sidewalks my studio.
I have taken my inspiration from such cityscape artists as Vermeer, and Canaletto, as well as, contemporary artists such as Antonio Lopez Garcia and Rackstraw Downes.
While painting these cityscapes I thought of the narratives evoked by the evidence of the environment. What I call the “street furniture”, which is the residue of what the people leave behind, can hint at the story of the location.
Although this wrestling with reality may risk failure of capturing the fleeting moment, I do hope the struggle to make it work will always lead to an interesting visual experience.”
