“The paintings in the exhibition focus on the transforming effects of light, as depicted in pigment, on water, sky, and land. The images grow out of memory and imagination–none of these painted vistas exist in the real world. They are instead a distillation of travels, observation, and response to the visual language of historical landscape painting.

These recent works feature, in addition to my signature interest in sky and weather, quiet waves on large bodies of water viewed at day’s beginning or end. Light reflected from sky to water and back again gives form to the subtle interchange between evaporating wetness and the atmospheric qualities of air.

These familiar subjects–the skies, quiet waters, and distant landforms viewed under the unifying effect of slanting light–may connect us with similar personal experiences of place that have evoked fleeting moments of stillness.” –Victoria Adams
